Just sitting here thinking about some of the things my mom used to say that made absolutely no sense at the time.
She would often say “Just keep living.” At the time, I didn’t understand it. But I’ve learned that life itself teaches you lessons you can’t rush. When things are hard or confusing, you don’t need all the answers right away. If you just keep going, experience will show you what you need to know.
She would say “I’m not saying what I heard, I’m saying what I know.” That one stuck with me when people spread gossip or repeat things they didn’t live through. It means speak from your own truth and your own experiences, not from second-hand stories. It’s about having the confidence to stand on what you’ve actually been through.
And she would say “Just keep on living and you’ll find out.” Back then it sounded like she was just putting me off. Now I see it as a reminder that time and living through situations will reveal the truth. You may not understand something today, but if you keep moving forward, life will make it clear.
These were the kinds of words my mom shared that stayed with me over the years.
This My Momma Said Collection is my tribute to her. Each piece features one of her sayings so you can carry her wisdom with you every day.
